✴ my creative space

Sometimes, when in the making zone, it's so very easy to get so very carried away with delightful things.
There has been a little party in my creative space. To cheer up a bit of crochet.
There has been dreamy soft velvet, tiny beads and sparkly diamante.
Golden thread, sequins and satin.
Gathering and ruching and fraying.
And although these beautiful things are so vivacious and fun in their own way. When they all got together, well, it was all just a bit too much. Each one vying for attention and adoration.
The bit of crochet felt ignored and unloved.
So we sent them packing and invited a humble scrap of ticking and a bit of ribbon and danced into the wee small hours....
Sometimes the simplest things just seem to work out better.
{Don't worry the other things have another party to go to}

✴ rainy day indoors

This morning is a typical monday morning that puts most people in the glums.
Dark, grey, raining, cold, gloomy, etc, etc....
I, on the other hand, am secretly thrilled! After four days of baby play, parties, coffee mornings and so on, it's lovely to have a reason to stay in.
I'm easily swayed when it comes to the weather.
'Oh, it's slightly drizzling....Hhmm, yep, better stay in..'
As long as I have nowhere I have to be, food in the fridge and plenty of milk for the mass of tea drinking which is inevitable with a rainy day indoors, then, all is good.
Of course, the reason I love staying in is that I can indulge in crafty pursuits while watching the baby play.
Anything that can be stitched or crocheted in a standing position or while chasing a crawling child and shouting out ' No, don't touch that' is a good way to spend a rainy day indoors!
Better go put the kettle on, again...

✴ my creative space

Yesterday, it rained all day. Miserable. Today, as if by magic, a fairy wish of sunshine came true. Today was glorious. Bright blue skies and golden winter (or is it now spring? is it?...is it?) sun. Unexpected but ever so welcome sunshine making crystal sparkles of yesterdays raindrops still clinging to the washing line and bare naked branches of the trees in the garden.
My creative space was, seemingly, for the first time in ages awash with colour and light streaming through the windows brightening the day and the mood and making it abundantly clear that a window cleaner should be called...Immediately!
Colourful crocheted flowers are growing in my creative space, awaiting further decorative flourishes that will turn them into brooches...
I've been stealing away to the workroom (cough.. ahem....err....garage ) to rummage through fabrics and trimmings and I think I have it all designed and thought through in my sketchbooks (cough..ahem....I mean head.).
Sequins and beads do not mix well with two playful pusscats and a one year old so I've been putting off the embellishments and, well, finishing the brooches!

✴ raining cats and grannies

It has poured with rain all day. All day! Not ideal to be housebound with a fractious one year old and two stir crazy pusscats. If I haven't been tripping up over musical toys and stepping in discarded rice cakes on the floor then I've been constantly opening the back door and patiently waiting for the in/out? decision of a small furry one.
Hooray for the biscuit bribe. Organic chocolate for the one year old and Whiskas treats for the furry ones, and let's hope I got them the right way round...
Fallen somewhat behind with the grannies... Just over a quarter of the way there, I reckon. But it's all good.

✴ home is where the hearts are

We've just returned from a weekend up north celebrating mum and dads ruby wedding anniversary. Forty years!
Gosh!
There was much raising of glasses and eating of yummy food and cake, of course!
Aunty Lulu decorated the house with fine paper prettiness.
There were plenty of red roses and gifts of champagne.
I gave them my gift of a scarlet embroidered heart.
{pattern from 'Made in France'}
And valentine gift of embroidered 'Love' magnets for Mr H.
Happy Anniversary Mum and Dad
Happy Valentines Day All!

✴ my creative space

Red is everywhere in my creative space this week.
Special occasions = hurried stitches + a large glass of wine (red, of course).
It's not just all about THAT day, which is fast approaching.
THAT day, which singles snort derisively at, dating couples excited plan weeks before and old marrieds forget all about until they spot the romantic meal deal in Marks....
No, this week there are birthdays and a very special wedding anniversary.
Hence the hurried stitching.
Scarlet stitches of hearts and flowers....I am an old romantic at heart, honest!

✴ a gift

Aunty Lulu has started her new course in London, so we get to see her a couple of days a week, hooray!
The first visit, she arrived with a gift for the new one year old. A beautiful origami Kusadama Ball. Just like this one she gave to me on the eve of my wedding. A good luck charm and so pretty to boot.
Pretty origami petals carefully folded and put together to form flowers which are then put together with other flowers to form a ball. Very clever. So delicate and intricate and such patience the paper folding expert has.
It's a gift, this paper floristry. The beautiful thing is that they last forever. With love and careful handling. And absolutely NO water required!
